Eliminate all sugar
from your diet
Why are we told over and over to eliminate
sugar from our diets? Besides being bad for you in so many ways, sugar
distorts our palate. In other words if we are use to eating sugary foods
all the time our mouth won't recognize the naturally sweet foods mother
nature made for us. Fresh strawberries and grapefruit will taste bitter
and your desire for a slice of pie wins over a crisp fresh apple. Not to
say that we can't have these treats every now and then, we just can't
overdo it. Sugar is put in everything from canned kidney beans to corn!
Read labels, not just the nutritional information section but the
ingredients. If you see sugar, raw sugar, granulated sugar, brown
sugar, powdered sugar, turbinado sugar, evaporated cane juice, sucrose,
dextrose, corn syrup, corn sweetener then don't buy it.
Did you know that sugar requires B vitamins and
other nutrients in order to digest in our body. The very thing you crave is
what is robbing you of precious vitamins! Well I'll just take more B
vitamins. Not so fast. Sugar does more damage to our bodies than we
realize. After we eat sugar, the body produces more insulin and your cravings
get worse and you want more sugar - a vicious cycle. The increased insulin in
our body raises our cholesterol and promotes the storage of fat. You don't
want that do you?
So why do I want sugar and/or food all the time, I'm
constantly hungry?
All diseases aside (except diabetes) your food
cravings are largely based on the fact that you are eating empty calories if
you are eating things with sugar in them and other junk foods on a continual
basis. Your body is being drained of vitamins and pulls them from your system.
Because of this drain your body is signaling the brain to SEND MORE FOOD.

If you must eat bread
make sure it is whole grain and not just brown or wheat bread.
Read the ingredients label on the package (not the nutritional information

NOTE: Some
people have allergic reaction to wheat and should eliminate it from their

If you buy rice
use brown rice instead of white rice. (If you must use white rice
pick basmati.) Brown rice has more fiber and nutrition than white
rice and tastes better too. Brown basmati rice has a
wonderful flavor and takes about 40 minutes to prepare. You can make a big batch and
store in the refrigerator for up to a week.

As a rule of thumb
avoid anything white (or beige). This is easy to remember. If you think of all the
foods this color they are usually not that healthy for you. They have been
bleached and most of the nutrients have been taken out by processing. This is done in order to make the processing easier on the
manufacturer, as in the case of bread the most nutritious part, wheat germ is removed. Then they happily tell you they have
added a fraction of nutrients and call it enriched. There are so many healthy
nutrients in whole grains that removing them all and then adding in only a few
is the equivalent of someone asking you to change a dollar and you give them a
couple of nickels and dimes in return!

Avoid Soy
Oh no, soy is supposed to be good for me.
Why should I stop using it?
First of all soy robs the body of calcium and
other important minerals. Secondly, most people don't process soy well in
their body and it creates gas. Third, most people don't realize that soy is an
allergen and can cause severe allergic reactions in some people just like
peanuts. Fourth, it is not to be eaten by those persons who already are
hypothyroid as it can suppress
thyroid function. And the list goes on.
Soy is in everything now from margarine to
canned tuna. Worst of all it is disguised on the food label as natural
flavor, textured vegetable protein (TVP), hydrolyzed vegetable
protein (HVP), or the more recognized monosodium glutamate (MSG)
just to name a few. If you are not sure what a particular food item is on the
ingredient list then don't buy it until you can contact the manufacturer or
find out more about it.
Soy is not the magic potion for curing man's -
or woman's - ills as once thought to be. You should NEVER feed soy to
infants or even those people suffering from intolerance to wheat as it can
cause the same complications as celiac disease aka wheat intolerance.
Although well absorbed by babies, soy infant formula causes a rise of levels
of serum estrogen of between 13,000 - 22,000 times the amount of those infants
fed milk based formula or breast fed. What does that mean? Risk of
cancer from elevated estrogen levels, growth retardation, disturbing emotional
behavior and earlier than normal puberty are just a few of the complications
one might expect.
Read about soy infant formula being under investigation.

Avoid Canola Oil
Avoid canola oil? But I thought it was healthy?
The truth is you have been mislead. Canola oil is
derived from the rapeseed plant, the mustard seed family. It is the most toxic
of all oil derived plants. It is nothing more than a weed and deadly for human
consumption. It was originally used as a lubricant in industrial machines, as
fuel, soap and as a synthetic rubber base. It is the shiny part you see on
magazine photos.
The original name for this poisonous oil was
rape oil. It was first produced in Canada and after it was processed using
irradiation (genetic engineering) it was renamed Canola Oil (Canadian Oil).
Canola oil contains large amounts of
"isothiocyanates" - cyanide-containing compounds. This is especially bad for
people with hypothyroid conditions as it prevents iodine uptake in the body
and is one of many "foods" that should not be consumed by the hypothyroid
patient.
Virtually every product on the market
today, whether it be in a supermarket or health food store carries the
ingredient Canola Oil. It is a cheap oil that is why they use it. It is
becoming harder to find any foods without it. So what is a person to do?
You can make your own mayonnaise using olive oil and just search out the
products that do NOT contain the deadly Canola Oil. This may mean giving
up most of the products you so dearly love. Most people are ignorant to the fact that just
because the product has been deemed safe by an agency it is supposed to be
good for you, or at least not harmful. After all, they are the same agencies
that told us Vioxx was ok!
Mainstream medicine will tell you there is
nothing wrong with Canola Oil and that it is a myth that it is bad for you.
Well the reason you are here in the first place is because you want answers
that mainstream medicine just can't give you. Practically every holistic
website has some reference to the dangers of Canola Oil.

- What are they?
So what kind of oils do I use? Oils that are high in Omega 3
fatty acids and cold pressed oils that don't use
heat or chemicals to extract the oil from the seed, that don't use bleach
to deodorize, and those found in dark colored containers so light won't
destroy the nutrients and cause them to go rancid. Also find your Flax Oil

Cooking oil produced today is a far cry from what our grandparents
used. It has been heated, chemicals added, bleached and hydrogenated. At
the turn of the century, 1900 that is, fats like Flax, Coconut, Cod
Liver and butter were found abundant on grocery shelves. With the coming
of World War 2 and rationing we replaced butter with the new kid on the
block, margarine. We replaced the wonderful Omega 3 benefits of Cod Liver
Oil with canola oil and soy oil and the cheap cottonseed oil.
It's no wonder why, in the last 30-50 years degenerative diseases are
more prevalent than ever - heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood
pressure, depression, hyperactivity or ADHD in children, obesity,
Alzheimer's and diabetes. Prescription drugs used to treat depression have
increased 300% in the last 10 years. More and more cases of ADHD in
children and Alzheimer's in adults are cropping up and the number of
new people being diagnosed with diabetes is out of control. We have been
on the low-fat no-fat bandwagon for almost 20 years now and where has it
gotten us? More obesity, especially in children than ever before.
Cutting out the fat in our diet isn't the answer, cutting the wrong
fat out of your diet is.
Your body needs fat to operate, like a well-oiled piece of machinery.
It needs fat for the brain, fat for the joints, fat to metabolize the
foods slowly in our system to maintain an even blood sugar level, fat for
energy and fat to help us keep satiated so we won't get constant hunger
pangs. Besides being good for you,
fat in the diet
actually helps you lose weight.
A low fat diet is a big fat lie -

The Zone
Diet
Introduction: There is considerable evidence that obesity is a glandular
problem. We all know people who can eat very large amounts of high calorie foods
and stay slim. Others gain weight on 700 calories. But obesity does not appear
to be just a thyroid problem. The real culprit is high levels of insulin. A diet
that includes refined carbohydrates (white flour and sugar) is known to raise
blood sugar levels in many people. Insulin levels must then go up to try to deal
with the excess blood sugar. Eventually, the person may become insulin
resistant, and normal levels of insulin are no longer able to control blood
sugar levels. Now the pancreas produces excess insulin when any carbohydrate
foods are eaten, and insulin levels are higher than normal. And we know that
most overweight people do produce too much insulin. Insulin is a storage
hormone. Above normal insulin levels get you at least four ways. First, excess
insulin forces blood sugar into storage as fat. Second, excess insulin prevents
the utilization of stored fat for energy. Third, excess insulin can increase
hunger. Fourth, high levels of insulin are also associated with coronary artery
disease. You have probably figured out by now that an abnormally high level of
insulin is not in your best interests! Dr. Barry Sears has researched the
insulin problem, and has come up with a program that lowers insulin levels by
using a specific ratio of protein to carbohydrate. For a fuller account of his
research, see his book Enter the Zone. (Note: If you are a diabetic,
are pregnant, or are being treated for any serious illness, you should consult
your physician before making dietary changes.) Find out your lean body
weight. Enter the Zone tells how to do this. If you do not have the book, use
your approximate ideal weight. Figure out how much protein you need per day.
Take your lean body weight (or your approximate ideal weight if you don't know
your lean weight) and multiply it by 0.0714 if you are sedentary, by 0.0857 if
you walk some, by 0.1 if you exercise for 30 minutes 3 times a week, and by
0.114 if you exercise an hour a day, 5 times a week. Round this number off to
the nearest whole number to give you the number of protein units you need per
day. One protein unit is one ounce of lean meat or cheese, one large egg, one
and one-half ounces of fish, one cup of milk, one-half cup of yogurt or one-half
cup of cooked dried beans, split peas or lentils. (Each protein unit actually
has about 7 grams of protein.) Add one unit (actually 9 grams) of carbohydrate
to your daily requirement for each protein unit. Best carbohydrate units are:
One cup of cooked non-starchy vegetables, one-fourth cup of cooked dried beans,
split peas or lentils, one-half cup cooked onions, two cups of raw non-starchy
vegetables, one cup of tomatoes, one-half cup of unsweetened fruit, or one-third
cup of cooked oatmeal. Some carbohydrate units that can be used less often are
one-fourth cup of winter squash or corn, one-third cup peas or potatoes,
one-half cup cooked carrots, one-third of a banana, one-fourth cup of fruit
juice, one-half slice of whole- grain bread, one-fourth cup of whole-grain
pasta, one-fourth pita pocket, two cups of popcorn, one-fifth cup of rice, one
rice cake, or one-half tablespoon of honey. For a lot more ideas, buy the book
or a carbohydrate gram counter. Add one unit of fat (1.5 grams) for each protein
unit. There are many possibilities, but a few are one-third teaspoon of oil or
butter, one-half teaspoon of nut butter, two tablespoons of avocado, or three
olives. This fat, by the way, is in addition to the fat that is in your other
units. Do not eat large servings of protein or very large meals. Large servings
of protein or any very large meal will raise insulin levels.

Acid/Alkaline Balance
Some think cancer and some other
degenerative diseases are affected by a too-acid mantle, so raising
pH to normal levels is desirable. Oxygen is absorbed more
efficiently by the cells when the body is tending alkaline, however,
alkalosis can be a problem just like acidosis although it is less
common. One problem with tending toward acidosis is that the body
will maintain blood pH in a narrow range at all costs. When it tends
acid, calcium and other minerals are removed from the bones or
organs to bring the pH up, and this can cause mineral deficiencies
which can affect cellular respiration and nutrition, immune
function, and contribute to mineral deposit formation. When it is
too base, the kidneys merely excrete the extra minerals, which is no
problem (unless there are renal problems.) This is one reason
acidosis is much more common than alkalosis. The other reason is
most people do not eat enough fruit and vegetables to compensate for
all the grains and meats they consume.
The way to tell toward what one tends
is to use nitrazine paper for a few mornings and see what the
average pH is. It is usually used for urine, but will work with
saliva, too. The ideal pH is around 6.0-6.5 for morning urine.
Nitrazine is pH paper that gives an indication of the actual pH
rather than litmus paper, which only tells greater or less than 7.0.
It is expensive, and available at some pharmacies.
If the urine is too acid, the easiest
solution is to use a mineral supplement, especially at night. The
best one I have seen with the quickest action is Ecological
Formula's Tri Salts, which is reagent quality calcium, magnesium,
and potassium carbonates and bicarbonates. It immediately brings up
the pH. However, this is not good in many cases if done long term.
Base form minerals like carbonates
are not well absorbed by the body so even though the urine is basic,
the body in general may not be. When taken with adequate magnesium,
calcium carbonate or bicarbonates tend not to form stones or
deposits as may be the case of supplementing just calcium carbonate,
but it is not the best form to take regardless. Making the urine too
base also makes it more likely to suffer a urinary tract infection.
The Tri-Salts should really only be used when an immediate reaction
is needed, or there is acid indigestion. The best calcium/magnesiums
are chelated or combined with citrate to make the pH more neutral to
the digestive tract, and since they are better absorbed, work better
outside the digestive tract.
As far as adjusting the body pH up
through dietary means, the best solution is to eat more fruits and
vegetables and less grains and meats (however, the best diet for
hormone balance is the
Zone diet, and it requires that adequate
protein and good oils be used to balance carbohydrates). The pH
tendency of foods is not based on their acid content or taste, but
on the mineral content. For example, lemons make the body alkaline
and most bread makes it acid.
Base minerals (cal, mag, potassium,
sodium) balance out acid minerals (sulfur, phosphorous, chlorine).
Balance is best - don't try to overcompensate by eating only base
fruits and vegetables since phosphorous, sulfur, and chlorine are
also important to the body.
Phosphorous is contained in proteins
and most grains. Proteins almost always also contain sulfur and
little magnesium or calcium, so they are acid-forming foods. Some
fish is less acid forming since they contain a decent amount of
potassium (and maybe some calcium and magnesium) to balance out the
acid minerals but most are quite acid forming. Most whole grains are
not too bad (for this aspect) since they have a little calcium and
some magnesium (in the hull) but refined flour, with the hull
removed, is acid forming since most of the magnesium has been
removed and there is nothing to balance all the phosphorous in the
germ. Some nuts have a decent ratio of calcium/magnesium to
phosphorous/sulfur, but they are almost all acid-forming except for
almonds, with their high calcium and good magnesium content. Dairy
products have calcium and potassium to balance the phosphorous and
sulfur, so are not that bad in the acid forming respect (but take
magnesium with the calcium). Rice and soy milk don't have calcium or
magnesium or quite enough potassium to balance all the phosphorous
unless they are calcium enriched, like Edensoy Extra. Fruits and
vegetables usually lack the acid components, and can have a good
amount of potassium and sodium and a few are good sources of
calcium, so are generally base-forming. High content sulfur
vegetables like cabbage, onions, and garlic are less base-forming.
The best way to ensure a balance is
to just eat a serving or more of fruit or vegetables for every
serving of protein or grain and take a cal-mag supplement and if
using salt, use a potassium-rich one. This could be Morton's Lite
Salt (a 1:1 ratio potassium sodium salt) or better yet a 3:1 mix of
pure potassium chloride to Real Salt to get a potassium rich salt
which contain trace minerals.

The following is
an article posted by Richard Loyd that stresses the importance of
balance.
The pH Problem
It is thought by many that everyone
has a never ending problem with acidity in their systems and that
this is the main cause of disease. We must continually combat this
problem by eating an "alkaline ash" diet, we are told. It is also
thought by many that the urine pH is an accurate indicator of the pH
of body fluids.
Alas, the situation is a bit more
complicated than that. Those of us who do metabolic balancing are
aware that many of our sickest people have body fluids that are very
alkaline, and that respiratory rate and breath holding ability are
key indicators of the pH of body fluids. A person with an acid
imbalance will generally have a resting respiratory rate of 19 or
more and if they take a deep breath will only be able to hold it for
40 seconds or less. Why? Because carbon dioxide is used by the body
to regulate pH. If the body is acid, the brain tells the body to
breathe faster to get rid of the acidic carbon dioxide. The same
principle applies to breath hold. The brain says "breathe!" The
urine pH may be acid. But if the acidosis is caused by excess
potassium in the system, the kidneys will dump potassium and retain
hydrogen. (Ain't evolution clever. If you believe that...) So the
urine is alkaline while the body fluids are acid.
Alkalosis is the opposite. A person
with alkalosis will generally have a respiratory rate of 13 or
slower and a breath hold of 65 seconds or more. Urine pH is
generally alkaline, except in potassium depletion alkalosis. In that
case, the body retains potassium, and dumps hydrogen (acid), often
making the urine acid while body fluids are alkaline!
Causes? Well, there is a metabolic
acidosis and alkalosis, a respiratory acidosis and alkalosis, and pH
problems caused by potassium imbalances as mentioned above.
There is also an acidosis caused by a
glucogenic or fast oxidizer imbalance. Fast oxidation produces
excess carbon dioxide and thus alkalosis. Slow oxidizers are the
opposite.
Then there are the anabolic/anaerobic
and catabolic/disaerobic imbalances. The anaerobic person generally
has alkaline urine, high urine surface tension and acid saliva among
other signs. Body fluids are alkaline and painful or diseased areas
are acid. The body tends to use insufficient oxygen in metabolism so
that instead of making carbon dioxide and water from glucose, the
cells make lactic acid. Dr. Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize for
proving that cancer is an anaerobic tissue.
The disaerobic person generally has
acid urine, low urine surface tension, and alkaline saliva. Body
fluids are acid, and painful or diseased areas are alkaline. Huge
amounts of free radicals are generated by their metabolic processes.

Why
do I crave Chocolate?
Because it tastes good! Seriously a little piece
of chocolate every now and then is not harmful providing it is every now and
then and not every day. Don't believe what they say about chocolate being a
health food, it's not. You can get the health promoting benefits from other

of magnesium. Find which one works best for your system.
Once you have achieved the virtual elimination of
sugary foods from your diet, and we hope at this point you have made a valiant

Diabetes
Have you been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes -
also known as Adult Onset diabetes? Did you know that diabetes is the
easiest "dis-ease" to reverse? Not convinced? You are not alone. Most people,
especially those involved in mainstream medicine, do not believe that Type 2
diabetics can be helped without the use of pills or insulin. Fact is with diet,
exercise and supplements you can reverse Type 2 diabetes. This does NOT mean you can throw out your pills/insulin tomorrow.
It takes an all inclusive dedicated effort to slowly make these changes. First
you have to educate yourself and find what works for you. Every person is

Water vs
Coke
WATER
- 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
- In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is
so weak that it is
often mistaken for hunger.
- Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's
metabolism as much
as 3%.
- One glass of water will shut down midnight
hunger pangs for
almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington
study.
- Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime
fatigue.
- Preliminary research indicates that 8-10
glasses of water a day
could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of
sufferers.
- A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy
short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the
computer screen or on a printed page.
- Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases
the risk of colon
cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%,
and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
Are you drinking enough water daily?
COKE
- In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol
carries two
gallons of Coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway
after a car accident.
- You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke
and it will be
gone in two days.
- To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola
into the toilet bowl
and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The
citric acid cleans out the stains. Coke removes stains from
vitreous china.
- To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper
with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in
Coca-Cola.
- To clean corrosion from car battery terminals:
Pour a can of
Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.
- To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth
soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
- To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola
into the baking
pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes
before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the
drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
- To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of
coke into a load
of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle.
The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean
road haze from your windshield.
And Now, For
Your Info - Yikes!!!!
-
The active ingredient in Coke is

Detrimental Effects of
Caffeine/Coffee
-
Dehydrates the body - especially large
intestine/colon - must drink 5 ounces of water for every 1 ounce of caffeine
consumed in effort to compensate. A dehydrated body is usually too
acidic.
-
Blocks the absorption of calcium, iron,
magnesium and zinc.
-
Creates constipation. The BM you think you had
because of your cup of coffee actually stops the next BM from happening
naturally.
-
Lowers adrenal function - can create adrenal
burnout.
-
Lowers thyroid function.
-
Creates pituitary tumors, depresses pituitary
function.
-
Increases kidney problems.
-
Creates iron deficiency.
-
Destroys the good bacteria in the
gastro-intestinal tract.
-
Makes our system too
acidic.
-
Impairs digestion.
-
Creates fibrocystic breast lumps in women.
-
It takes 32 glasses of purified water to
counteract 1 can of coke.
Decaffeinated coffee is equally harmful. The
process of decaffeination is achieved through the use of formaldehyde, an
embalming agent. Thus, "decaffeinated" coffee not only contains some caffeine
but includes numerous chemicals as well.
Do not exchange caffeinated tea for coffee.
Instead, switch to an herbal tea. A good substitute for coffee is Raja's Cup.

Wash Off Your Packages from the
Store! Why would I want
to do that? Please read all of the following:
A stock clerk was sent
to clean up a storeroom in Maui, Hawaii. When he got back, he was complaining
that the storeroom was really filthy and that he had noticed dried mouse or rat
droppings in some areas. A couple of days later, he started to feel like he was coming down with a
stomach flu, complained of sore joints and headaches, and began to vomit. He
went to bed and never really got up again. Within two days he was severely ill
and weak. His blood sugar count was down to 66, and his face and eyeballs were
yellow. He was rushed to the emergency at Pali-Momi, where he was diagnosed to
be suffering from massive organ failure. He died shortly before midnight. No one would have made the connection between his job and his death, had it not
been for a doctor who specifically asked if he had been in a warehouse or
exposed to dried rat or mouse droppings at any time. They said there is a virus
(much like the Hanta virus) that lives in dried rat and mouse droppings. Once
dried, these droppings are like dust and can easily be breathed in or ingested
if a person does not wear protective gear or fails to wash face and hands
thoroughly. An autopsy was performed on the clerk to verify the doctor's suspicions. This is why it is extremely important to ALWAYS carefully rinse off the tops of
canned sodas or foods, and to wipe off pasta packaging, cereal boxes, and so on. Almost everything you buy in a supermarket was stored in a warehouse at one time
or another, and stores themselves often have rodents. Most of us remember to wash vegetables and fruits but never think of boxes and
cans. The ugly truth is, even the most modern, upper-class, superstore has rats
and mice. And their warehouse most assuredly does! Whenever you buy any canned soft drink, please make sure that you wash the top
with running water and soap or, if that is not available, drink with a straw. The investigation of soda cans by the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta
discovered that the tops of soda cans can be encrusted with dried rat's urine,
which is so toxic it can be lethal. Canned drinks and other foodstuffs are
stored in warehouses and containers that are usually infested with Rodents, and
then they get transported to retail outlets without being properly cleaned.

Pet Health
Your 4 legged best friend deserves the best of health. Here are
some resources to help you help him or her.
Vaccinosis. What is it and what can I do about it? Too
many vaccines lead to unwanted behavior and health problems.
DO NOT allow your vet to administer any vaccine while
your dog is on antibiotics, has had recent surgery, is sick or has diarrhea.
See this link on the Leerburg website for more information. Scroll down to
General Comments toward the bottom of the page
http://leerburg.com/diarrhea.htm
If you suspect your dog
has had a bad reaction to a vaccine, whether it is a puppy or adult
dog, seek the expert advice of a holistic veterinarian and not your
regular vet. Your regular vet will only tell you nothing is wrong
and go on to administer another set of vaccinations. For a list of
holistic vets in your area please see this link

Your Dog's Immune System
The immune system is the body's defense
mechanism, soldiers fighting a battle against
invaders. The invaders are foreign bodies trying
to destroy its host (your dog). Over
administration of vaccines can be one cause of a
suppressed immune system. If your dog's immune
system has been compromised it may manifest
itself in one the following ways:
-
Excessive Paw Licking (Lick Granuloma)
Urinary Tract Infection
Ear Mites or Excessive and Smelly Ear Wax
(Candida)
Aggressive Behavior
Excessive or Abnormal Itching or Scratching (Urticaria)
This is only a small
list of problems due to an immune system that is not
working properly.

Stop and Chew Your Food!
You can hear your mother now telling you to slow
down and chew your food. But there was good reason for her to tell
you that. Chewing your food thoroughly has the benefit of not only
easing indigestion but chewing starts the digestions process when
saliva is mixed with food. If we don't chew our food enough the
results can be gas, bloating and undigested food that creates an
overgrowth of bacteria.

Have you Been Diagnosed with Low Thyroid?
Approximately 27 million people in
the United States have thyroid disease. Most of those diagnosed are hypothyroid
or under-active thyroid.
What does this mean? It means
that the thyroid gland, either through drugs, radiation, prolonged stress or removal of
the thyroid gland, does not produce enough of the hormones thyroxine and
triidothyronine.
The thyroid is the main gland responsible for
controlling your metabolism. A
thyroid that is not functioning properly can be responsible for high
cholesterol, diabetes, overweight and
adrenal fatigue just to name a few.
It also plays a role in maintaining bone density with the secretion of a 3rd
hormone, calcitonin, which inhibits bone resorption.
How can I tell if my thyroid
gland is not working properly? Low energy, mild depression, constipation, heavy periods, slow pulse and
reflexes, a tendency towards feeling chilly and weight gain to name a few.
But I have been tested and the
doctor said my thyroid is normal. Even though a
standard blood test looks "normal" your thyroid may be somewhat underactive.
Most doctors today rely heavily upon the blood test and base that on their diagnosis
for
whether or not you have thyroid disease. This is not always the case.

apricots, almonds (this is
debatable as there is conflicting information), cassava, cherries, millet, peaches, peanuts, pears, radishes,
spinach, strawberries, soybeans and SOY PRODUCTS, tofu and walnuts.
These foods inhibit thyroid hormone
production and should not be eaten if you have low thyroid. Even when cooked they
still have the ability to inhibit. Some people can tolerate in small amounts,
some can have cooked and others none at all. It is best to see how your own body
reacts to certain foods. Keep a food diary and log your reaction. You may not
have a reaction until the next day or subsequent days following the ingestion of
certain foods.

Adrenal Fatigue
What exactly is adrenal fatigue? Adrenal fatigue is
not recognized by conventional or mainstream medicine. Adrenal fatigue can be
very debilitating and frustrating for someone when their doctor tells them that
even though they feel tired all the time, can't get up in the morning, need
caffeine and other stimulants to keep going, are always sick, have no sex drive
and constantly feel stressed, that nothing is wrong. Some doctors even go so far
as to say that it is the "in diagnosis these days".
If nothing is wrong why do I feel so bad?
Conventional medicine will only recognize full blown Addison's Disease, when the
adrenal glands have been completely burned out. Adrenal Fatigue or hypoadrenia
is caused by constant prolonged stress or a series of stressful events like the
death of someone close, serious auto accident, life changing events like divorce
or moving, or serious illness. When these stressful events happen close to one
another it does not give the body a chance to recover from the first event.
The adrenal glands help us during times of stress
and produce critical hormones for the body to function. Without the adrenal
glands we would not be able to function at all. If you have hypoadrenia, you most likely will have
low thyroid. Both should be treated
simultaneously giving first treatment to the adrenals to strengthen them,
otherwise you may feel shaky, have palpitations and won't be able to sleep.
Of course everyone has different symptoms and this is something serious so
finding a holistic doctor to treat you is paramount.

Exercise to Beat Osteoporosis
I am sure you didn't want to hear
this but the best thing you can do to prevent Osteoporosis and strengthen your
bones is exercise. Especially walking, running and weight lifting. Weight
lifting? But I don't want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger! Don't worry,
lifting weights won't make you look like a professional bodybuilder but it will
keep you in shape by building muscle mass. Building muscle mass helps to
strengthen your bones AND increase your metabolism which helps you lose
weight. Now do I have your attention? We all want to lose weight but sometimes
aerobic activity just isn't enough. Weight lifting, or anaerobic exercise,
deprives the muscles of oxygen tiring them quickly and they require 19 times as
much glucose to do the same amount of work as aerobic exercise.
But what does that have to do
with Osteoporosis and my bones? People with high blood sugar tend to have
Osteoporosis. So if you are sitting around watching the boob tube get off your
bottom and start doing something. Bring your treadmill in front of the tv or
better yet bring your weights and lift while you watch. You can incorporate many
things into daily activities that help build muscle like taking the stairs
instead of the elevator, doing squats and pushups while watching tv, doing leg
lifts while in your chair. But don't let this take the place of a real workout,
you need concentration for that but most of all you need to enjoy the type of
exercise you are doing. So find something you enjoy and get moving.

Drugs
given prior to colonoscopy linked to kidney failure
Certain bowel cleansing
products used prior to colonoscopies are linked to chronic kidney failure,
according the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. The
JASN cited certain bowel-cleansing products containing sodium phosphate
are an un-recognized cause of chronic kidney failure in the United States.
Common bowel-cleansing drugs that include sodium phosphate are
Visocol, an oral prescription drug and another non-prescription
product called Fleet Phospho-soda.
Researchers cite several
potential factors that may contribute to the development of kidney
problems from sodium phosphate bowel-cleansing agents, including
inadequate hydration while receiving the drug, history of high blood
pressure and the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
For more information or to
view the JASN article visit:
http://jasn.asnjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/16/11/3389
So what do I do now?
Here is what you can do to prepare for your next colonoscopy in lieu of
taking the bowel cleansing products the hospital or doctor will give you.
The following is not intended
to diagnose any physical condition, or to prescribe or promote any
particular product or products. It is not intended as a substitute for the
advice and treatment by a licensed medical professional so please check
with your doctor first and voice your concerns about the bowel cleansing
products.
Two (2) days prior to your
colonoscopy do not eat ANYTHING that is not clear or see through.
In other words if you can't see through it, don't eat or drink it. Things
like clear chicken broth, yellow and light green jello, and apple juice
with NO pulp may be eaten. Anything that will color the bowel walls or
look like black specks have to be avoided, otherwise it will skew the
test. This may be a good time for a light fast and a colonic.

Cholesterol: How low is too low?
Ever notice that the target
total cholesterol level is getting lower and lower these days? And why
not, with all the cholesterol lowering drugs on the market today one must
wonder what the real story behind those numbers really mean. Who decides
what the new normal is? The drug companies are the ones who fund
the research so can you trust them?
It used to be that 220 was
considered a good total cholesterol reading. Not anymore. The drug
companies have us believing that a total cholesterol of 180 or under should be our
goal. That kind of thinking is dangerous. Your body makes and needs
cholesterol, especially for the hormones to function at the optimal level.
A cholesterol level that is too low poses a whole host of health concerns
including depression, aggression, stroke, anxiety and even suicide.
Dramatic? Not really, not any more dramatic than the ads for the
cholesterol lowering Statin drugs on the market that we are bombarded with
every day.
The side effects of Statin
drugs far outweigh their benefits. In fact, Statin drugs are known to
cause liver damage by inhibiting the enzymes the liver makes when your
body produces too much insulin. TOO MUCH INSULIN. Where did you hear that
before. What are you doing that causes the body to produce too much
insulin. That's right, too much sugar, refined grains and processed foods. Elevated levels of insulin is the main cause of high
cholesterol. Research has shown that eating food with cholesterol only
marginally affects the blood cholesterol level - 80 to 85% of our
cholesterol is made by the liver from sugar, while only 15 to 20% is
synthesized from dietary fats.
Here are some things you
should first do to lower your cholesterol levels:
-
Exercise at least 20-30
minutes 3-4 times a week. Walking around your office or home all day does
NOT
count as exercise. You need to work up a sweat and do it continuously
for that period of time for it to be effective.
-
Eliminate sugar and lower
your grain intake.
-
Increase your intake of
vegetables and fiber.

Fungus in your food
So what's a little fungus
among us? Fungus here, fungus there, fungus everywhere. Literally
fungus IS everywhere. It's in the soil, the air we breathe, at
home in our
carpets and yes - in our food. But just how much harms the body is as individual
as the type of food and amount of food each of us eats every day.
Some people have strong
immune systems and are not bothered by fungus, mold or yeast in our food at
all. Others with weakened immune systems are effected at different
levels.
But I can't see the fungus
in the food, where is it?
Most fungus found in food
can't be seen with the naked eye. It becomes obvious when you can see
little green specs in old bread and other food that has been stored in
the refrigerator.
So what can a person do to
eliminate fungus in their food?
Start by eliminating
the suspected food that harbors the mold to begin with. Here is list of
foods to avoid http://www.dldewey.com/foodsno.htm You'll think twice about storing

Cancer: what you should know
Most important fact about cancer:
Cancer thrives in a sugar environment. If
you find this fact hard to believe then consider the test mainstream
doctors use to detect if a person has cancer - a
PET scan. Positron Emission Tomography - is where
they inject you with a small amount of a radioactive sugar solution and
watch to see the cancer cells going after it!!! If you don't believe it,
here is the definition from the
National Cancer Institute. Pay
special attention to where they say "cancer cells often use more
sugar than normal cells".

More information about holistic cancer
treatments:
Please don't assume the information
presented here about cancer is telling you to abandon your treatments
entirely. That is not the case. Of course prevention is the key but if
that still did not stop this insidious disease in its tracks you can
still arm yourself with information to ask your doctor about
treatment options and other complimentary non-medical procedures.
Chemotherapy is not the only answer but in some cases it can and does
become necessary. Helping you stay healthy during chemotherapy is the
ultimate goal. Some doctors will not accept the fact that you are
seeking alternate treatments. In fact, if some doctors knew what you may
be doing they might drop you as a patient.
The medical board would pull their license if they even suggested you do
something other than chemotherapy or radiation.

Amazing Body Facts
Did You Know?
A human being loses an average of
40 to 100 strands of hair a day.
A cough releases an explosive charge of air that moves at speeds
up to 60 mph.
Every time you lick a stamp, you consume 1/10 of a calorie.
A fetus acquires fingerprints at the age of three months.
A sneeze can exceed the speed of 100 mph.
Every person has a unique tongue print.
According to German researchers, the risk of
heart attack is higher on Monday than any other day of the week.
After spending hours working at a computer display, look at a
blank piece of white paper. It will probably appear pink.
An average human drinks about 16,000 gallons of water in a
lifetime.
A fingernail or toenail takes about 6 months to grow from base
to tip.
An average human scalp has 100,000 hairs.
It takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown.
Babies are born with 300 bones, but by adulthood we have only
206 in our bodies.
Beards are the fastest growing hairs on the human body. If the
average man never trimmed his beard, it would grow to nearly 30
feet long in his lifetime.
By age sixty, most people have lost half of their taste buds. By
the time you turn 70, your heart will have beat some
two-and-a-half billion times (figuring on an average of 70 beats
per minute.)
Each square inch of human skin consists of twenty feet of blood
vessels.
Every human spent about half an hour as a single cell.
Every square inch of the human body has an average of 32 million
bacteria on it.
Fingernails grow faster than toenails.
Humans shed about 600,000 particles of skin every
hour - about 1.5 pounds a year. By 70 years of age, an average
person will have lost 105 pounds of skin.
Amazing Lung Facts
At rest, a person breathes about 14 to 16 times per minute.
After exercise it could increase to over 60 times per minute.
New babies at rest breathe between 40 and 50 times per minute.
By age five it decreases to around 25 times per minute.
The total surface area of the alveoli (tiny air
sacs in the lungs) is the size of a tennis court.
The lungs are the only organ in the body that can float on
water.
The lungs produce a detergent-like substance which reduces the
surface tension of the fluid lining, allowing air in.
Amazing Heart Facts
Your heart is about the same size as your fist.
An average adult body contains about five quarts
of blood.
All the blood vessels in the body joined end to end would
stretch 62,000 miles or two and a half times around the earth.
The heart circulates the body's blood supply about 1,000 times
each day.
The heart pumps the equivalent of 5,000 to 6,000 quarts of blood
each day.
Modern Technology, Modern Problems
With advanced technology comes the
problems associated with it. We have all the benefits of the new age
technology but are being inundated with the pollutants that come with
their convenience.
The FDA and other regulatory agencies
will come out with reports that tell you in order for a person to be
harmed by a chemical or inorganic substance they would have to ingest,
inhale or be exposed to an inordinate amount to make a significant
difference.
Did it ever occur to them that when you
combine all the pollutants we face every single day and add them up over
a period of time that
they indeed will have a significant effect on the human body? Most, if
not all pollutants are stored in your body and never leave. That in
and of itself puts a tremendous burden on the body. Add to the
mix the stress of life today with extra hours worked to meet our
obligations and the limited amount of sleep we get it's no wonder our
bodies are falling apart.
We were not designed to eat the so called
"food" on store shelves today. That is why obesity, diabetes, heart
disease, Alzheimer's, Autism, ADD and cancer is at an all time high. If it were only the food
then maybe the body could cope. But we have added outdoor and indoor air pollutants,
chemicals and inorganic substances in food, devitalized food, chemicals in makeup and skin products,
chemicals in vaccinations,
harmful chemicals
like mercury in prescription and/or OTC drugs and
a 50 or 60 day work week with little or
no time for vacation.
See how all this stuff adds up? This is
